Walter Eckland è un ex professore di storia, ora iroso ubriacone, che ha mollato tutto e scorrazza per il pacifico in piena guerra. Il comando inglese ha necessità di un avvistatore di aerei giapponesi in una sperduta isoletta. Il comandante della guarnigione dove Eckland ha attraccato la sua barca lo ricatta (in nome dei vecchi tempi) e lo costringe a assumere l'incarico (prima gli bombarda la barca in modo che non scappi e poi a ogni avvistamento gli fa trovare una bottiglia di liquore nascosta sull'isola). Il tempo trascorre tranquillamente, per così dire, finché Walter non viene contattato per salvare, con una barchetta a motore, un altro avvistatore su un'isola vicina. Qui Eckland trova invece sette ragazzine e la loro insegnante francese. Le salva portandole sulla sua isola e inizia così la forzata convivenza con queste femmine. Dopo varie comiche vicende ed essere riusciti ad evitare i giapponesi, saranno felicemente salvati.
